Coopers Home Brewing Equipment

This guide you will probably find in your coopers microbrewery kit and any concentrate you buy but I’m going to put it up here so it is easy for locate for anyone who forgets or finds the instructions a little too confusing.

So you have just received your kit (or wanting to reuse it) now first things first you will need to to clean and sterilise your equipment before use here are the highlights you should look out for when cleaning.

Cleaning (If not first use)

  • You should Soak the equipment over night, This will help any caked on residue come off (If this is not your first use)
  • Clean all areas and particular the small hard to get areas
  • Don’t use any scourers, This will damage the fermenter and allow bacteria to grow

Sterilising

  • Place 1/2 cup of bleach or x amount of sanitiser in the fermenter and fill with cool water, Place all Equipment in as well
  • Let soak for at least 1/2 an hour but overnight is preferable
  • Rinse with hot water till the smell of chlorine has gone
  • Fermenter lid can just be cleaned with really hot water

Beginning your first brew (If its your first time)

  1. Dissolve contents of the can and other fermentable sugars into the fermenter with 2 litres of water (4 litres of hot tap water can be used)
  2. Top up the fermenter to the 20 litre mark with warm-cold water try and get the temperature to be sitting on about 21-27 degrees Celsius, Mix with plastic spoon
  3. Fill the rest of the way to 23 litres and adjust water temperature to get the ideal (21-27 Degrees Celsius)
  4. Pitch yeast in and seal the fermenter.
  5. Place airlock in the fermenter lid, Use boiling water in the airlock to produce a sterile seal
  6. Fermentation should begin in an hour or two in which action should begin to happen in the airlock (Bubbles), Don’t stress if this does not happen, there may be a leak in the seal of the fermenter. (It doesn’t mean your product is not fermenting, If a foam is producing on the top then it is fermenting, Condensation should also be appearing.

Try and keep your brew at a constant 18-32 degrees Celsius

You have just completed your first step in producing a brew, This will take about 7 days to ferment by which there should be no action in the airlock.

If you have just read this article because you are trying to decide whether to buy the coopers microbrewery kit then I strongly suggest you do it is a great start for home brewing.
